WELCOME LETTER
We are pleased to introduce the 2023 edition of our Singapore Chemicals, Ingredients and Materials reports, produced by Global Business Reports (GBR) in collaboration with the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB). Our research draws from nearly 50 interviews with the regional CEOs of the main chemical, energy, logistics, environmental, and digital companies that shape the scene of the Singaporean chemical and petrochemical industry. We thank each of these contributors, and extend a special thank you to our media partners at SCIC and ASPRI, who will be sharing this report with their networks.
Singapore has been a global leader in chemical manufacturing for many years now, consistently ranking as one of the top exporters of chemicals globally, despite the country’s limited land. The world’s most important chemical producers are found side by side on the famous Jurong island, forming a highly modern, organized and integrated cluster. Singapore is at the heart of APAC and serves as the geographical gateway to the Southeast Asian region. The world-class infrastructure and business-friendly policies have attracted a diverse group of players over the years who have turned the island into a financial, manufacturing and logistics hub.
The past year has been a challenging one for chemical companies globally. Softening demands, war, high inflation, soaring borrowing costs, and the ever-looming climate crisis have forced companies to adapt rapidly or quickly become obsolete. In times like these, partnerships and collaborations between companies, non-profits, and governments are more crucial than ever. This is particularly true for the biggest challenge the chemical industry faces: achieving net-zero.
Building a circular economy, more resilient supply chains, and leveraging the power of new technologies like AI are just some of the ways in which the industry is rising to these challenges. GBR’s 2023 edition of Singapore Chemicals, Materials and Ingredients provides an in-depth insight into one of the world’s most dynamic and forward-looking chemical sectors at a time of unprecedented change.
