COMPANY PROFILE

Satellite-based infrastructure intelligence

Summary

ASTERRA is a world leader in S.A.R. (Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellite-based infrastructure intelligence. The company’s patented algorithms for the detection of soil moisture types below ground bring to the market the only intelligence of this kind. By analyzing S.A.R. imagery, ASTERRA collects hard, actionable data, which it puts in the hands of ground crews, planners, and engineers. Since its inception, ASTERRA has expanded its product line from “Recover” for water leak detection to include “Masterplan” for long-term water infrastructure planning and “Earthworks” for ground engineering intelligence across multiple verticals.

History

The core technology on which ASTERRA is based was first applied in the search for underground water on Mars and other planets. Lauren Guy, the geophysicist and entrepreneur who developed the approach, quickly recognized that if it could work so far away, it could be even more effective here on Earth. Mr. Guy co-founded Utilis (now known as ASTERRA) in 2013 to develop applications for the new technology.

ASTERRA EarthWorks

Satellite-Based Infrastructure Intelligence - Risk prevention for roads, railways, dams, levees, property, mining operations

ASTERRA Earthworks supports risk and disaster prevention efforts by detecting and analyzing underground soil moisture wherever it may predict or potentially cause critical infrastructure to fail. As a satellite-based solution, EarthWorks can assess up to 40 linear miles and 1,400 sq miles (64 km and 3600 sq km) at once, bringing significantly greater efficiency to maintaining the resilience of infrastructure that protects lives, property, and the environment.
