Marie-Chantal Savoy, VP Strategy and Communications, LOGISTEC

“Never before has our suite of environmental services and technologies been more necessary to deliver innovative, safe and sustainable solutions to communities facing a growing number of critical environmental challenges.”

Can you provide our readers with an overview of SANEXEN’s work within the mining industry?

As member of the LOGISTEC family, some of SANEXEN’s earliest clients were companies within the mining industry. Today, we service the full mining life cycle, from the moment a mine is built to its closure. For mining processing activities, tailing and water management must be addressed at each project stage from start-up to closure, and must adhere to stringent environmental and social responsibility policies. We specialize in tailings and water treatment, including de-watering, dredging, and sludge management. In June 2021, we purchased an Alberta-based organization called APG that specializes in dredging and sludge management, further deepening our expertise in this sector. We work on the ground with our clients, utilizing our team of scientists, engineers, and field experts to create unique solutions.

How important is innovation to SANEXEN?

For over 35 years, SANEXEN’s mission has been to build and share its expertise in order to contribute to the success of its customers and its communities. At the heart of SANEXEN is the energy and creativity associated with its ability to innovate and customize solutions for customers. This competency is unmatched in the industry and is truly a unique differentiator for us. Our ability to leverage this and bring it to the market is key to growing the company. By focusing on the customer combined with a solid network of partners enables them to have the right teams directly involved in every project to provide field-proven tailored solutions to industrial customers, municipalities, and governmental agencies. Never before has our suite of environmental services and technologies been more necessary to deliver innovative, safe and sustainable solutions to communities facing a growing number of critical environmental challenges.

Could you share an example of an innovative product SANEXEN has recently launched?

Last April, we launched ALTRA 3D, a brand new technology for the mining industry. The unique properties of ALTRA 3D make it the best performing solution for transporting minerals, water, slurry, chemicals and other fluids in mining environments. Due to the flexibility of ALTRA 3D, our woven lay flat hose can easily cope with the drastic environmental and climate-related changes and challenges typically found in difficult mining applications. The ALTRA 3D solutions are engineered to resist abrasion from solids as well as corrosion from fluids that are transported in mining applications.

How does the company approach the topic of sustainability?

SANEXEN’s greatest impact on sustainability is through the solutions we have developed for our customers and communities, which have a positive impact on the environment. We are accelerating the development and deployment of our technologies. Thanks to our innovations, we build resilient water infrastructure, decontaminate soils, preserve our drinking water and aquatic habitat, and eliminate emerging contaminants. We are excited about the opportunity to lead projects to build a more innovative, sustainable, and resilient future.

Does SANEXEN ever work directly with First Nations?

SANEXEN is proud to support and strengthen the Indigenous communities we are privileged to work with. We responsibly deliver a wide variety of projects, while fostering opportunities for training, involvement and local initiatives that create a future for Indigenous youth. We recognize that success depends on building long-term partnerships and reinforcing a culture of sharing alongside Indigenous people. We are also proud to partner with two Inuit companies (Qikiqtaaluk Environmental Inc. in Nunavut and Avataani Environmental Services Inc. in Nunavik). Both Indigenous partners actively participate in strategic decisions, business development, and day-to-day operations.

What will drive growth for SANEXEN?

Our long-term vision sets an ambitious destination for SANEXEN to become the innovative leader in its industry. We will further evolve the organization through three driving forces of change, namely ESG and climate change, innovation and technology. We will put the ingenuity of our people forward to accelerate the world’s green transition. In particular, I believe the ALTRA 3D hose will be a game changer for the mining industry, as water-related challenges will only intensify over the next few years.
